Take Denver's Hampden Avenue US 285 to Buena Vista for a scenic nine-holes. From a fairway elevation of 8,500 feet, the peaks immediately climb to more than 14,000 feet.
Drive on to Salida to stay, dine and soak in the Salida Hot Springs Pool.
Dine along the Arkansas River as it flows right through downtown. Then enjoy the city-owned Hot Springs Pool. Next morning, play a quick nine at the city course before driving over Monarch Pass to Gunnison.
The semi-private course is west of town where two mountain rivers join to create the Gunnison River which created the deep Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Stay in Gunnison and travel along the Blue Mesa Reservoir to Montrose.
Built as a luxury country club with a large clubhouse, restaurant and even some lodging, The Bridges is now open to the public.
Overlooking the farming town of Delta, the fairways of the city-owned course were built of specially grown sod interconnected and spread out on top of rock-hard pre-historic mud hills.
The in-town course has traditional tree-lined fairways, mountain views and reasonable rates. Several nearby motels offer golf/lodging packages.
The newest of the Montrose courses is in the modern planned community south of town.
Set in the fruit orchard community of Cedaredge, the planned community course has two very different nines. It is at the south entrance to The Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat top mountain that has more than 300 natural lakes.Go over Grand Mesa to reach I-70.
After touring Grand Mesa along the winding highway through the towering pines and lakes, connect to I-70 and the Colorado River. The Battlement Mesa community and golf course are enroute to the east. Stop for an afternoon round or stay overnight along the river.
With wide green fairways spread over a stark adobe landscape, Devil's Thumb offers a really unique experience.
Grand Mesa's golf course is at the southern entrance. The community golf course has traditional fairways but more elevated and rugged terrain on the back niine. Affordable rates.

Now take I-70 east to Battlement Mesa Golf Course. Play in the afternoon sunset. Stay overnight.
